OpenCF Summit Speaker Interview: Mike Henke
Next up in our series of posts of interviews with OpenCF Summit speakers, Mike Henke:
Mike is an Adobe Community Professional. He is an advocate of tools and practices making ColdFusion development more productive and easier like frameworks, ticket systems, and source control.
OpenCF Summit: Hi Mike! Tell us a little about yourself:
Mike: Well, I've worked with ColdFusion since 1999 for several companies in Omaha, NE and Washington, DC. I have several CFML projects on Github and Riaforge. I also blog at http://www.henke.ws.
OpenCF Summit: What does your development environment look like?
Mike: My current development environment is Adobe ColdFusion on Windows. We are using Trac for tickets. Git is the source control system. The IDE is Eclipse with CFBuilder or CFEclipse, Tasktop, and FusionDebug plugins. My favorite framework is ColdFusion On Wheels.
OpenCF Summit: What is your experience with Open Source Software? Where do you see OSS going?
Mike: My experience with Open Source Software is mainly using ColdFusion frameworks, Eclipse, Github, and Riaforge. I see Open Source Software continuing to grow and help people solve problems.
OpenCF Summit: Where do you think CFML is heading these days? How would you characterize the state of the CFML community?
Mike: I think CFML is heading in a great direction with Adobe, OpenBD, and Railo. I would characterize the state of the CFML community has friendly and helpful.
OpenCF Summit: Why are you excited about OpenCF Summit?
Mike: I am excited about the OpenCFSummit because it expands and promotes CFML outside it's normal comfort zone. Plus it is always great to hang out fellow CFML programmers.
OpenCF Summit: OK, last question: Could you tell us a bit about what you will be presenting on?
Mike: I will be leading an UNConference session on the ColdFusion On Wheels framework. Wheels is heavily based on Ruby on Rails, but it's not a direct port, and there are some things that have been changed to better fit the CFML language.
Come talk shop with Mike and other leaders of the CFML community at the OpenCF Summit February 21-23 - and watch this space for more speaker interviews!
